Class description

Every long range shooter knows that wind is the single biggest factor that contributes to missing targets at distance. Wind is the leveler. It’s the animal that separates those who can, and those who can’t.

But… Reading the wind is teachable. Learning what to look for and where to look for it is something that everyone willing to learn, can discover.

That’s where the Wind Walker Experience comes in.

Most shooters learn how to read wind on their home ranges - because that’s all they have. Then, they go to a match or an event which is in a totally different environment than their home range. Sure, they’ve got a decent foundation, but the majority of the event is spent learning the peculiarities of the conditions on THAT range.

A match or a hunt isn’t a place for big learning. It’s a place for performance, so let’s get your skills where they need to be first.

What You’ll Learn

We’re going to expose you to five different ranges, all with different geographical and topographical differences, in a compressed timeline. The learning curve will be steep. Each range that we’ve selected has one, or several, of the main wind conditions that every long range shooter must learn and master:

  • Flat ranges with subtle terrain variations
  • Headwinds and Tailwinds
  • Full-value Crosswinds
  • Cross-Canyon Winds
  • Large target array spans over 90 degrees
  • Angle Fire - Incline and Decline

Each location you’ll be tested cold and blind - you’ll shoot a pre-determined course of fire meant to both teach, and test. We’re incredibly fortunate in the Pacific Northwest to have access to a wide array of ranges that fit each of those conditions, and they’re all within reasonable distance from one another.

If you’re looking to up your game in the competitive shooting world, this is where you want to be.

If you’re a western hunter looking to learn more about the conditions you’ll be exposed to in the field, this is where you want to be.

If you want to learn how to be comfortable and confident in the wind, The Wind Walker Experience is the ultimate long range training experience.

Prerequisites:

To keep this experience flowing and productive for all participants, we’re requiring that you’ve got a solid baseline of skills pre-established. What we’re looking for from participants skills-wise:

  • Show up with a properly set up precision rifle, ready to train.
  • Know what gear you’re going to use, and be proficient with it.
  • Ability to zero and validate trajectory at distance, unsupervised.
  • Competency in alternate shooting positions, including tripod shooting.
  • Ability to move yourself and your equipment on foot over a reasonable distance.

Logistics:

We’re going to be driving from location to location, and we’ll be staying at a mix of hotels, and group-style BnB’s. On the final night we’ll camp together as a group to share some fellowship and camaraderie.

This will be a long range shooting experience you won’t soon forget!
