Law enforcement sniper operations increasingly occur in low-light and no-light environments where positive identification, disciplined decision-making, and timely intelligence collection are critical to mission success. This three-day course is designed specifically for law enforcement SWAT snipers tasked with providing precision overwatch, containment, and information collection in support of the tactical main effort.

In addition to the Law Enforcement Sniper Skills Progression Camp description and training philosophy found below, this Low-Light / No-Light Sniper Operations class augments our already nationally-renowned Skills Progression program.

Please see below for the specific details and required equipment list.

COURSE FOCUS

Unlike traditional marksmanship-focused training, this course emphasizes the sniper’s role as a sensor and decision-maker first, and a shooter second. The instruction will center on information collection, threat discrimination, and communication with command and assault elements during hours of darkness. This course focuses on the employment of white light, clip-on night vision devices, and infrared (IR) systems to maximize the sniper’s ability to observe, identify, and report while operating under reduced visibility. Students will develop practical, repeatable tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) that balance operational effectiveness, legal considerations, and risk management.

Students will learn to effectively transition between white light and night vision based on environmental conditions, mission requirements, and identification standards. Emphasis is placed on facial feature recognition, behavioral analysis, and weapon/hand identification to reduce ambiguity and support lawful use-of-force decisions.

TRAINING OBJECTIVES

  • Develop effective low-light and no-light TTPs for law enforcement sniper operations
  • Understand the strengths and limitations of white light, night vision, and IR systems
  • Improve positive identification capabilities under reduced visibility conditions
  • Enhance information collection and reporting in support of the tactical main effort
  • Integrate sniper operations with command, containment, and assault elements at night
  • Reduce operational risk and agency liability through sound decision-making

About this class

At Modern Day Sniper, we reject the traditional division of "basic" and "advanced" courses when it comes to the professional application of marksmanship with a scoped rifle. We believe that the essential distinction is not between basic and advanced skills, but between the levels of efficiency with which shooters apply these skills. Regardless of their experience level, students graduating from a basic Law Enforcement Sniper class are expected to navigate and problem-solve dynamic situations, regardless of their level of complexity. Being new, or green won’t matter - what will matter is your dedication to submitting the fundamentals to your subconscious, therefore widening your cognitive bandwidth to process more information, and make critical decisions under high levels of stress.‍

Class Prerequisites: This class is specifically designed for professional snipers and is NOT open to the general public. Attendees must provide a copy of their law enforcement credentials or US Department of Defense ID card, along with a graduation certificate from an accredited sniper school.

Eligibility extends to any active duty or reserve Law Enforcement Officer, or Department of Defense member, currently serving in the role of a sniper or designated marksman. Even without a basic sniper certification, you can attend if you're serving in that role at the time of enrollment.
